Abstract:
Massive Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna systems emerged as one of the major technology components for 5G a bit more than a decade ago. Moving from antenna systems with a handful antennas, to tens or even hundreds is however not a trivial feat.
Performance and power consumption of components such as power amplifiers, data converters and local oscillators are all major hurdles and conventional building practices does not necessarily scale well with the increased number of transmit and receive antennas.
In this talk, we will discuss some of the ideas, methods and algorithms which enabled this shift and cover the outlook of massive MIMO and some of the issues that remains today.
