Abstract: As the energy system moves towards containing more renewable energy sources, the fluctuations in the system also increase. In turn, this also increases the need for energy storage, leading to investment possibilities in storage options, for example, batteries. In this thesis, electricity price patterns and trends are analyzed to synthesize three different data sets of electricity prices varying in average price but also in the degree of fluctuations. The three data sets are then together with one real data set used to investigate the possible profit from energy arbitrage using battery storage depending on variations in price. Further, the thesis discusses possibilities for storing energy produced from a wind farm and selling it as ancillary services.
