Greetings from the Chair
The International Workshop on Advanced and In Situ Microscopies of Functional Nanomaterials and Devices (IAMNano) 2025 will be held in at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, from August 20th to 22nd, 2025. IAMNano serves as a venue for researchers and other specialists in different areas of microscopy, materials science, and materials engineering to discuss and exchange their latest findings and ideas with each other. It was first held in Krakow, Poland (2012), and subsequent workshops were hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2014), Hamburg, Germany (2015), Port Elizabeth, South Africa (2016), Singapore (2017), Hamburg, Germany (2018), Düsseldorf, Germany (2019) and Matsue, Japan (2023). This year’s IAMNano will be the 9th in the series. In my experience this workshop always provides an excellent opportunity to move the field forward, promoting scientific advances and international collaboration in a congenial atmosphere.
Many of the world’s leading scientists in this field will attend, and just as in previous years the IAMNano will present outstanding and inspirational talks as well as vivid poster sessions. The poster presentations are an essential component of the workshop as they provide multiple occasions for one-on-one discussions on a wide array of topics
Gothenburg is a city on the Westcoast of Sweden. It was founded in 1621 and has since the beginning been an international hub with vivid international exchange. William Chalmers, who founded Chalmers University of Technology, was the Director of the Swedish East India Company. He realised that technical skills would be key to the development of Gothenburg from commercial centre into industrial city. With “Avancez” as its motto, also inherited from its founder, and through its close partnership with industry and other community stakeholders, Chalmers has played a key role in developing Gothenburg into an intensive research and development region in the EU. Gothenburg as a city offers plenty offers cafés and restaurants with delicious food, a vivid and pleasant street life, and an archipelago easily reached by public transportation including buses, trams and ferries. It is our hope that IAMNano 2025 will provide ample opportunities to forge new friendships and plant the seeds for future collaborations.
