Robin Teigland (PhD) is Professor of Strategy and Management of Digitalization in the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Division at Chalmers. Robin is a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and in 2017, 2018, and 2019 she was listed by the Swedish business magazine, Veckans Affärer, as one of Sweden’s most influential women, primarily in technology. In 2019, she was also ranked as one of Sweden’s top 100 public speakers. Prior to Chalmers, Robin was Professor of Business Administration, with a specialization in Strategic Information Systems Management at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), where she earned her PhD in 2003 and then became SSE’s sixth female professor since its founding in 1909.

Robin is the Director of Ocean Data Factory Sweden, Sweden’s first national ocean data lab, that promotes innovation based on the application of AI to ocean data. ODF’s mission is to ensure that Sweden plays a leading role in the development of the global blue economy and to ensure that the ocean and its resources are managed in the best possible and most sustainable way.

Robin also leads two other research projects related to digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI): 1) 4boards.ai that investigates the influence of AI on corporate governance (financed by Vinnova) (financed by Vinnova) and 2) The Benefits and Challenges of Internet-enabled Artificial Intelligence for Sweden’s Innovation Capability Today and in the Future (financed by Internet Stiftelse).

Additionally, Robin is an impact entrepreneur, working to develop a blue circular economy in Peniche, Portugal under the Peniche Ocean Watch Initiative and her startup, Ocean Tech Hub LDA. The Peniche Ocean Watch Initiative (POW) aspires to enable a blue circular economy and global best practice in tackling ocean waste and regional rejuvenation through joining forces with local efforts in the coastal areas of Peniche and facilitating knowledge sharing and creativity in ocean-based industry and digitalization. Students, digital nomads, and others are welcome to Peniche to work on POW-related internships or on their own projects.

Robin's lecturing and research interests reside at the intersection of strategy, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship and include the following:
• Digital innovation networks and the creation and diffusion of knowledge through internet-enabled communities and networks, e.g., open source software communities, digital entrepreneurial ecosystems
• Digitalization and the influence of the convergence of disruptive technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence, IoT, smart robots, blockchains, 3D printing, virtual reality, gene editing, on the future of the firm, labor and value creation in society
• Social impact through digitally-enabled circular economies, particularly in coastal areas
• The new industrial revolution and the future of the Swedish welfare state and the nation state

While at SSE Robin sat on SSE’s Board of Directors from May 2017 to October 2018, and she was the Program Director of SSE's PhD Program in Business Administration 2010 to 2015. Outside of SSE, Robin is a Fellow of the KIN Center for Digital Innovation at the VU University in Amsterdam and a member of the Singularity University Portugal Faculty.

Robin has published numerous books, articles, chapters, and industry reports in a variety of international outlets. Her most recent books are 1) The Rise and Development of FinTech: Accounts of Disruption from Sweden and Beyond (2018), 2) Digital Transformation and Public Services: Societal Impacts in Sweden and Beyond (2019) and 3) The Digital Transformation of Labor: Automation, the Gig Economy and Welfare (2019). All books are published by Routledge and are available for free download on Routledge’s homepage due to the purchase of the open access license.

On a personal note, Robin is from the USA and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. She does not sing, but she is learning to play the banjo. :-) She holds a B.A. in Economics with Distinction from Stanford University, an MBA from the Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics. She also has a range of work experience, such as venture capital in Silicon Valley, consulting for McKinsey & Co. in Sweden and Spain, an entrepreneur in Norway, production operations for Esso in Chile, stock brokerage in Spain, and international banking in USA. In her free time, she enjoys learning from her five children as well surfing longboard waves and co-running her Ocean Tech Hub coworking/coliving space and Go4Surf surf school in Peniche, Portugal.
