Tiina Nypelö

Assistant Professor; Dep. of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry

SInce 2017 Tiina Nypelö is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Applied Chemistry at Chalmers.

“All that I do targets new materials from trees. On a personal note, I would like to see that we in general need less short term materia in our everyday life. With my work I want to contribute to make the ones we really need to be less accumulative and less harmful to people and nature. Besides that, there is just so much cool and fun in wood-based materials!”

The core is to build from liquid-rich state, gels, emulsions, dispersions, solutions, colloids toward solid organizations. She combines forest products technology, materials science and renewable resources for advancing sustainable materials engineering. The research efforts involve cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignins with emphasis on surface, interface, and intermolecular interactions. She holds a Doctor of Science degree from Aalto University (Finland) 2012 from Forest Products Technology, and a Master of Science degree in Textile technology, fiber materials science, from Tampere University of Technology (Finland) 2007. Her appointment at Chalmers is also affiliated with Wallenberg Wood Science Center (wwsc.se).
