I study how aging factors are retained along cell lineages. Aging of biological cells is characterized by appearance and propagation of harmful molecules which have a deteriorating effect on the cell. Over time accumulation of these aging factors leads to cell death. Aging factors are however not passed on to the offspring of the cell upon cell division. To study the retention of the aging factors I utilize fluorescence microscopy, microfluidic systems and mathematical modelling. The goal of my project is to elucidate the biological process which leads to the mother cell retaining aging factors and prevention of migration of these factors to the daughter cells.
