Vessen Vassilev

Vessen Vassilev received M. Sc degrees in “Radio Communications” from the Sofia Technical University in ’95, and in “Digital Communications” from Chalmers University of Technology in ’98. In 2003 he received his PhD degree from the department of “Radio and Space Science” at Chalmers University. Between 1998 and 2008 he has been working with the development of mm-wave receivers for applications in radio astronomy and space sciences. Most notably among these instruments are the “facility instrument” of the Atacama Path Finder Experiment (APEX) telescope installed in the Chilean Atacama desert in 2008, and the 85-115 GHz receiver for the Onsala Space Observatory. Since 2008 he is with the Microwave Electronics Laboratory at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience at Chalmers. His current interests are in the development mm-wavelength sensors based on Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit technologies. A sensor for remote measurement of moisture in thin paper layers, a total power radiometers for thermal imaging applications and a heterodyne radiometer for the Ozone line at 110.8 GHz are among the instruments he recently worked with. Vessen Vassilev authored 8 and co-authored 10 papers in refereed scientific journals, he also authored 12 and contributed to 36 conference papers.
