Control of Energy Storage Equipped Shunt-connected Converter for Electric Power System Stability Enhancement

​The aim of the project is to investigate the application of energy storage equipped shunt-connected converter (E-STATCOM) to the transmission system. The ultimate goal is to design an effective controller for the E-STATCOM to achieve power system stability enhancement function such as Power Oscillation Damping (POD) and transient stability enhancement. A control algorithm for POD with minimum active power injection will be developed and the performance of the device at different locations in the power system will be investigated. The control strategy will be designed to be robust against system parameter changes and its performance will be validated through simulation and experimental results.
