Traffic planning is the means by which a state or municipality tries to enable an efficient means for people and goods to be transported efficiently to their destinations safely, and with minimal safety hazards and negative environmental effects. As these goals are in conflict, any “solution” is a compromise at best, and the vast variations among all these decision-makers’ wishes and the uncertainty of the situation, it is not an easy task to decide on a best solution. The purpose of this project is to develop numerical tools for the assessment of traffic network design and control solutions as well as to assist in the design itself, using a variety of mathematical models.
