The project TIPPSI will provide the end-users with a build-specification for systems that will mitigate the challenge of person-borne IEDs (PBIEDs) in operational environments. Other applications of the technology could include the detection of buried IEDs through high-resolution sub-millimeter-wave ground surface mapping radar, which could provide a more robust solution in adverse weather conditions in comparison to e.g. LIDAR. The focus of the TIPPSI project is to define requirements, perform modelling, develop a simulation capability and validate this using prototype passive and active imaging systems working in the range 100 - 600 GHz. The output from TIPPSI will provide concise, quantitative system performance metrics to guide the development of stand-off real-time mmw/smmw imaging systems for operational deployment.
The Project will involve research groups at Frauhofer IAF, Fraunhofer FHR in Germany, FOI and Chalmers University in Sweden, TNO and the Technical University in Delft in the Netherlands, and Military University of Technology in Poland.
