Steer by wire Opportunities, performance and system safety (SWOPPS)

The aim of the project is to investigate Steer-by-Wire (SbW) aspects of: 1. Control strategies for torque feedback and driver support functionality 2.Virtual methods for the development of SbW with drive simulators 3.System safety aspects of the SbW feedback mechanism 4.Alternative driver interface enabled by SbW.

The aim of the project is to be able to develop SbW functionality, focusing on the driver feedback and driver support interaction. The result of the project will increase understanding of how to design and control this part of the system. Furthermore, man will better understand the consequences of when an error occurs in this part. All of the above will be central to succeeding in introducing SbW in the market.

The project will use a driving simulator and a prototype car to investigate the four above-mentioned aspects. System security aspects and alternative interfaces will be studied in traditional simulator studies, while other aspects will be studied more objectively based on set criteria.
