Smart Streets

Purpose and goal: The Smart Streets project aims at developing models for multifunctional streets that can be used for rebuilding and new construction, meeting the challenges of future urbanization, digitization (eg autonomous vehicles), electrification, segregation and climate change.

Expected results and effects: The Smart streets project will: - Compile knowledge and experience on the multi-functionality and technical framework of different street types, focusing on newly built or newly remodeled streets. - Develop models and typing solutions for the smart streets of the future. - Develop a street functionality index and evaluate the street sustainability - Create a simulator that makes it possible to drive, walk and cycle in developed models, - Develop a guide for smart streets in Swedish cities for reconstruction and new construction, as well as listing possible testbeds in Swedish.

Approach and implementation: The project involves a large number of actors so a main objective is also better cooperation and understanding within street planning, between engineers, architects, planners, businesses, economists and users. Workshops are conducted with representatives from state, county level, municipality, consultants, construction companies, transport companies, property owners, and users, to test developed street models. The smart streets guide presents developed and tested models and aims at becoming a new Swedish standard for future street design.
