Energy efficient marine transport through energy systems analysis of ships

Shipping today accounts for 90% of all freight transport. Forecasts of the world’s transportation needs in 2050 show that it will double the current level. At the same time, shipping must become more energy-efficient and before 2050 reduce its contribution to emission of greenhouse gases to 40% of the levels 2005. In this project, through interdisciplinary research, we generate knowledge, methods and models that contribute to develop shipping as a transport-efficient mean of transportation which can achieve the 2050 targets with the requested transport needs and minimized fuel consumption.
