Resource nexus for transformation to circular, resilient, and liveable cities in the context of climate change
The aim of this proposal is to identify roles, opportunities, and pathways for cities to foster circular economy to significantly reduce energy, water and material resource use, and related environmental impacts, to build resilience to ever-increasing uncertainties from globalization and climate changes, and to become more liveable in different urbanization contexts in China and Europe. It will involve cities of Beijing, Malmo, Shanghai and Vienna.By developing and implementing methods for urban metabolism, for building resilience to potential social, economic, and environmental stress. Including expertise of specialist groups in metabolism analysis, resource nexus modelling, robustness-, uncertainty- and footprint sustainability analysis. The project measure the resource utilization by metabolic processes, interconnections, and climate impacts. This innovative approach is amenable to scenario analyses that can assess the benefits of closing loops and promoting circular economy.
