Objective and Goal: Wind noise is the dominating contributor to the in-cab noise level for trucks and buses driving at cruise speed (80-90 kph). A quiet driver environment is a contributing sales motivation in the sense of comfort, safety, and quality. The overall aim in this project is a deeper understanding and knowledge as well as a numerical method to predict wind noise problems. Result and Expected Effects: The expected outcome from this project is a fundamental understanding of how noise sources are generated in the external flow field around the vehicle and how the noise sources depend on geometrical complexity and flow speed. Different numerical methods will be evaluated and the most suitable will be used for problematic truck areas and experimentally verified. The techniques will be beneficial to numerically predict problems for reduction of cost and development time.
