Cavitation is the phenomenon of formation of vapour bubbles a flowing liquid a region where the pressure falls below vaporization pressure. often brings negative effects in propulsion systems, such as performance degradation, noise and vibration, and cavitation erosion. Cavitation erosion, being a major threat to the life span of hydraulic equipment, e.g. propellers, happens when cavity implodes repeatedly very close to the body surface.
This Project aims to develop computational methods and requirements that can be used to predict the risk of erosive cavitation. In addition to The high-end technique Large Eddy Simulation is chosen to obtain description of the flow possible within affordable computational effort, therefore enables the study of the mechanisms that must be correctly simulated in order to make reliable predictions.
