Power Electronic based dc transformer for off-shore wind energy installations

In this project the dc/dc converter as a component in a dc-based offshore wind energy system, is to be investigated. Reduction of volume and weight are the benefits, as well as an improved energy efficiency. The project is a PhD project reinforced with a postdoc that recently has presented a PhD thesis in this subject. The postdoc will work on a system level with the control of the power electronic semiconductors as well as topology of the converter, and by doing this establish the boundary conditions for the design of the transformer. The PhD
student is above all active in the transformer design. Verification of the theoretical results are an important part of the project. The project also does a deep dive into the modelling of the parasitic components such as stray capacitances and leakage inductances, which are important aspects to consider in order to obtain an optimum
design.
