This project builds upon several years of previous research on developing a functional architecture for complete vehicle energy management of electrified vehicles. The main objective is to bring the complete vehicle energy management a step closer to a real-world implementation, by testing and validating the algorithms on detailed powertrain models and in a surrounding traffic. The focus will be kept on the interaction with a slow moving leading vehicle, which could be driven either manually or autonomously. It will be investigated how to optimally approach the leading vehicle, whether to keep a short distance or to vary the distance with respect to road topography, whether to overtake, or, if possible, to engage into a cooperative energy management.
