Enzymes are biocatalysts, which , in a biobased economy, would be utilized as efficient alternatives in processes that are currently performed in chemical processes. This project, funded by SIDA, is a collaborative effort between the Industrial Biotechnology group at Chalmers and the Food Industries Research Institute in Hanoi. It aims at the discovery and application of novel microorganisms and enzymes for the production of biofuels and biomaterials from agricultural and forestry sources. Sweden, thus, obtains access to the extremely rich microbial biodiversity of Vietnam, while the latter profits from the experience and equipment available at Chalmers.
