70 new chemicals are registered and every year about 500 of them will be found
in new products. Sooner or later all of these chemicals will end up in the
environment and many of them find their way in water and sludge through rivers
and brooks out in the coastal waters. Thus not surprisingly even in smaller
studies complex chemical solutions are to be found along all of our coasts.
Fortunately all lakes, streams and archipelagos in Europe should have an
adequate chemical and ecological status before 2015. The intention is to be
able to predict the cumulative effect of all chemicals in a stream and to
measure the effect from these chemical solutions. If you don’t know the cause
and effect, you can’t prioritize and fix the problem.
