Future sustainable competitive production systems need to be productive and flexible, as well as environmentally friendly and safe for the personnel. To improve a production system and reach these objectives, production management must have access to coherent information regarding products and processes throughout the entire plant. An important hidden resource in the manufacturing industry is data. However, data and information are often unstructured and still based on paper.
The aim of this project is to develop a Line Information System Architecture (LISA) that can be used in industrial production systems in general and in automotive discrete manufacturing specifically. This architecture aims at capturing raw data from the plant of a production system and transforming these data into understandable and coherent information in order to ease production management decisions.
LISA is based on a formal description of a system and its components. The formal definition of functions, activities, relationships and interfaces between components would permit to provide standardized and generic information.
The overall goal of LISA is to reduce costs and environmental footprint, and to improve product quality and system flexibility and reliability.
