Lightweight structures for robotised production of large span bridges and buildings - LIGHTSPAN
Purpose and goal: The project shall develop new lightweight concepts, with different metallic materials and forming and joining technologies, to enable robotic production for bridges and buildings. This gives shorter construction times and optimal material and process utilization, reduced waste, energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The project goals are: Develop new lightweight concepts for bridges and buildings that enable robotized production, reduced costs and increased sustainability (weight reduction, productivity, and sustainability >20%) Develop Toolbox & Guideline Expected results and effects: Expected results are that the lightweight concepts functionality and possibility for robotized production show large cost and weight savings and improved sustainability. LIGHTSPAN also contributes significantly to change design and construction technologies; when the new and more efficient concepts and manufacturing technologies are known they will be utilised more, leading to more lightweighting and automation, and products with reduced environmental impact, increased product value and efficiency in manufacturing, and strengthened competitiveness. Approach and implementation: The project runs on 3 years and has 6 work packages: WP1 Concept design WP2 Computational models WP3 Structure- and component optimisation WP4 Detail design solutions. WP5 Manufacturing technologies WP6 Results, project lead, dissemination, and Guidelines
