High performance and scalable tailored graphene - polyolefin nanocomposites
The development of scalable procedures and material compositions for a novel class of high performance graphene - polyolefin nanocomposites will be pursued in this project. The nanocomposites will be based on a unique type of special-design graphene material disclosing outstanding potential as filler in polyolefins. In this project we will attempt to develop high performance special-design graphene polymer nanocomposites using industrially scalable processing techniques.
The tailoring of the nanocomposites will aim at delivering superior (and/or) electrical, thermal, mechanical etc. properties compared to available graphene nanocomposites. Overall, the project has the potential to develop a new generation of products for a wide range of applications.
The techniques will be applied to a substantial number of special-design graphene based hybrid filler compositions, polymers of varying molecular properties and polymer blends. The effect of processing conditions, during mass production processing techniques, e.g. extrusion, injection molding, will be tested. Such developments will be crucial for ensuring high performance and reproducibility for large scale production. A wide range of characterization techniques will be performed through the combined efforts of the project partners.
