Fast charging is necessary to enable a high utilization of electric busses. Since the charging is conducted at high power levels there is a risk that the distribution system needs reinforcements to cope with the increased demand. There are several alternatives available that could be used to avoid the need for reinforcement, including energy storage, reactive/active control of the charger and curtailment/demand response of loads close to the charge point. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the grid impact of fast charging in distribution systems and to design guidelines for how to reduce the impact. Further, the project will investigate the possibility to use the charge station for grid support when it is not used.
