To keep emissions and fuel consumption low during the complete lifetime of a vehicle, regardless of wear and changing environmental conditions the engine controller needs to know the combustion characteristics. To get information about the combustion characteristics several methods are investigated, such as use of cylinder pressure sensors and torque sensors. However these sensors have the drawback that they add on high cost to the engine. To get information from existing or cheap sensors is thus very interesting. In this project it will be evaluated how much of the combustion information that can be estimated based on the flywheel position sensor. The goal is to be able to calculate cylinder separated torque that later can be used to make a diagnosis of the combustion and to control the combustion. Compared to previous known studies the method in this work will be based on an analysis of the dynamics of the complete driveline assuming the load torque is unknown.
