En databas med STATistisk METeorologisk data för procedurkonstruktion (STATMET)
The project is initiated by an initial phase that investigates the previous use of historical meteorological data in curved instrument flight procedure design, both on a national and international level. Thereafter the work progresses and Chalmers and Novair work together to develop methods to determine which assumed meteorological conditions that could be used during procedure design. An evaluation of the type of database structure needed to generate relevant tailwind components is investigated in parallel. The methods and database structure are then used to develop a demonstrator aimed to be used for refined navigation performance procedure design, with specific values of tailwind components rather than the typically used ICAO standard wind component. SMHI’s meteorological database is used to develop the demonstrator, and Swedavia contributes with procedure construction design expertise. LFV will support the project with ATC expertise and Novair will provide operational expertise from the airborne perspective as well as supporting the development of mathematic methods. The demonstrator aims to design more efficient instrument flight procedure, and Stockholm Arlanda Airport is used as the validation site. In the final phase of the project, newly designed instrument flight procedures are tested and validated in a flight simulator.
