EU Interreg IVB North Sea Programme, Dry Port a modal shift in practice

The idea of the project is to develop an efficient railport structure near Falköping, focusing on organizational and strategic aspects. The project is divided in different research areas where the connection to other terminals, business ideas and improved usage of the dryport are explored. By connecting the terminal to the port rail shuttle system there is a potential for increased intermodal transports within Scandinavia and subsequently increased competitiveness of the dryport. The connection to other terminals such as the Gothenburg harbor generates the possibility to sell overcapacity in the system, especially with the strategic location of Falköping. Different forms of additional services to offer are also explored, such as accommodation for special goods and reefers. The project is conducted in close collaboration between Falköping community and companies located in the Skaraborg region.
The project addresses the development of a combi-terminal in Falköping – Skaraborg Logistic Centre- into full functioning dry port.
