Household heating demand is influenced by the building properties but also by occupants’ heating patterns which are determined by factors varying greatly between people and locations. Building energy analyses, certification schemes and building stock modelling use in their calculations standard stable indoor temperatures to represent people’s heating patterns and focus on the building related impacts on energy use. This often leads to differences between calculated and actual energy use. It is therefore important to understand the contribution of different factors- especially occupant-related- to heating patterns and the associated energy use in order to better direct energy reduction strategies. This project aims to address this gap using the comprehensive BETSI database collected by Boverket in 2007/08, which includes data on buildings and their systems, occupants and their thermal perception as well as detailed indoor temperature measurements.
