Computation of ship waves

A numerical method is developed for computing the waves generated by a ship. The method is an extension of a previously developed numerical method for ship flows, where the free surface is considered flat. With the new extension all components of the ship resistance can be obtained more accurately than in traditional methods, and the effect of the propeller on the flow around the hull and on the wave generation can be investigated.

Project objectives
The goal is to develop a method which can be used for optimising the hull and the propeller, such that the fuel consumption is minimized. With reduced fuel consumption the environmental impact of emissions gets smaller and nature’s resources are better utilized.
