Comparison of control strategies for heating systems in multifamily buildings based on measurements

Improved control of heating systems in multifamily buildings can result in reduced use of energy at low cost if applied in the right way. The project comprises a unique comparison between three different control strategies for hydronic heating systems in multifamily buildings. Traditional ambient temperature control is compared to feed-back control and model based control. The control strategies are applied on three similar and adjacent multifamily buildings in Gothenburg in close cooperation with Stena Fastigheter Göteborg with large experience from mentioned control strategies. The comparison is primarily related to energy use, thermal comfort and related costs, where energy use and thermal comfort is based on longterm measurements. A reference group with representatives for consultants and estate managers will supervise the project in order to secure feedback related to experiences and utilization of results.
