The project deals with mathematical modelling of the thermochemical conversion of various biofuels in fixed beds. The aim is to advance the state-of-the-art by addressing the two most important challenges in this field: 1) The dependence of the volatile release on the fuel properties, the heating rate and the surrounding temperature; and 2) Computationally efficient descriptions of the thermochemical conversion of heterogeneous fuel beds, accounting for variations in fuel size, shape and composition.
