Sweden’s goal of having a sustainable transport and a vehicle fleet totally fossil-free by 2030 has led to a number of initiatives to increase the use of electric vehicles. At the same time the development of new technologies has increased the interest on autonomous freight vehicles and the conditions under which these vehicles would bring about benefits for the private sector and for society.
The implications of using autonomous electric vehicles for urban freight transport are numerous and their study requires a multidisciplinary approach. This project seeks to integrate urban freight transport, business modeling, and control with communication engineering to study the problem of Connected and Autonomous and Connected Trucks for Electric Distribution (ACTED) for urban freight transport. The study will focus on medium-duty trucks operating from distribution centers to urban environments and smaller vehicles distributing the last-mile within large traffic generators.
