Automatically Assessing Correctness of Autonomous Vehicles (Auto-CAV)

While autonomous vehicles can potentially increase road safety and create a safer environment, they are extremely complex systems. The complexity arises not only from the design but also from verifying the correctness of the design. It is of high importance for the end customers that all software that is a part of the autonomous driving system is safe to use and works as expected. In this research project, methods to improve verification of autonomous driving, such as formal verification and system modelling will be addressed. The goal of this project is to establish formal verification as an efficient tool in the development of safety critical software in autonomous vehicles. To achieve this goal, efficient methods to obtain formal models of complex software systems and formal specifications of system requirements will be developed. This will not only result in improved quality of the software developed but also in ensuring correct and safe behaviour of the autonomous vehicles.
