Our goal is to be an environment for knowledge creation that creates attention in the academic community as well as among decision-makers in organizations. Our research and educational activity is directed towards our students and the organizations we are cooperating with in our research.
The basis is the real problems encountered by firms - the relevance of our research is central. We have a management perspective to address questions of strategic significance. In short, our research deals with prerequisites for innovation and R&D in small, medium-sized and large organizations. This means e.g. research about firms’ innovation activity and their development of new business models, and not least how these activities are managed, but also research on processes, methods and tools for effective and efficient product development. Examples of current research projects are platform strategies; the development of integrated solutions and methods for visualization; economic analyses of risky investments, strategies for developing innovation capabilities; design thinking for increasing innovativeness; the role of leadership for innovation and business models and growth in new technology-based firms.
We want to offer courses that are relevant, and close to our research, at all levels of education and we aim to provide excellent courses at bachelor-, master-, doctoral- and executive levels. We teach at many different educational programs at Chalmers, outside our own School. We are also involved in Chalmers Professional Education. The division’s courses are found within the international master programs Management of Innovation, Quality and Operations Management, Product Development and in several bachelor´s programmes.
The courses provided by the division range over a number of different areas such as design, innovation, product development, project management, operations research, engineering economic analysis and business development. Many courses deal with the managerial aspects of innovation or R&D.
