Strategies to manage variations in the electricity system

The cost of solar PV cells and wind turbines has decreased rapidly over the past few decades. As a consequence, wind and solar power is expected to supply a large share of the electricity demand in future electricity systems and electricity is considered an attractive energy carrier in the decarbonization of the industry and transport sectors. But how can a varying demand for electricity be met by varying electricity generation?
