Title: Sub-Terahertz Communication: A Key Enabling Technology for 6G

Abstract: This lecture presents the opportunities and challenges in sub-terahertz (>100GHz) communications for 6G networks. Exploring sub-terahertz band is motivated by the still limited bandwidth to transfer extremely large data. A brief overview of the wireless links (>100GHz) developed by industry companies is presented. The challenges involving chip design and packaging are discussed.  Furthermore, the fully integrated TX/RX front-end chipsets in InP and SiGe technologies are demonstrated, which are able to handle data rates up to 48 Gbps with QPSK modulation. In addition, experiences are shared in how to design frequency multipliers innovatively, achieving state-of-the-art performance.
