This lecture will provide an overview of railway switches and crossings and the research performed to make them less of an annoyance to railway operations. From their functionality and fundamental design constraints to damage prediction and optimization. The role of research in the railway sector will be discussed and utilization examples given.
About Björn Pålsson
Björn Pålsson is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Dynamics at the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences. His main research interest is in railway mechanics and the modelling and simulation of dynamic-vehicle track interaction and the ensuing damage. Most of his research concerns switches and crossings and is performed within Chalmers’ competence centre for railway mechanics, CHARMEC.
