This lecture will present Björn Johansson’s research on how to utilize digital tools in the manufacturing industry to facilitate a more sustainable production. New functionalities using digital tools such as 3D scanning, VR application and simulation of production systems have been developed and applied with sustainability metrics to evaluate production systems. Challenges identified are the data collection, the multidisciplinary approach needed as well as the priorities and balance in-between aspects of sustainability such as environmental, economic and social wellbeing. The latest findings including examples on how practitioners in industries can benefit from the developments and how students can apply the new knowledge to build awareness for a more sustainable society.
