Machine learning in radio astronomy

Abstract: New, large astronomical facilities and in particular modern survey instruments are faced with the challenge of analyzing large, complex and multidimensional data sets. Machine learning methods help to address these challenges. I will give a short introduction, explaining why the use of ML in astronomy might differ from other fields of research, and subsequently, go through a number of examples where machine learning has been used in radio astronomy, trying to focus on cases which are relevant to research being carried out at Onsala Space Observatory.

Chalmers machine learning seminars are open to the public with speakers from both academia and industry. The seminars are hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
