Symposium on artistic research 2020 – Working together

What does it mean to conduct research in or between subjects and disciplines? Artistic research is multidisciplinary and collaborative in character. It covers a large number of art forms and research fields – all with their own needs and prerequisites. This year’s symposium on artistic research is about the opportunities and challenges involved in collaboration.

Welcome to the symposium Working Together

Collaboration can create lots of opportunities, but also involves challenges. Artistic research is conducted in circumstances where different actors are dependent on each other, during the start-up phase of the project, when delimitations are made, and during implementation itself.

What frictions may arise as a result of factors such as hierarchies, differing evaluation criteria, or differing demands on how the research is made public? Which investigations are best done within separate subjects and disciplines? And when are interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary or multidisciplinary working formats and perspectives the most fruitful? These are some of the issues that will be discussed during the symposium.
Collaboration between researchers – both within and across disciplines – is also closely linked to the issue of the value of strong and dynamic research environments. How should these environments be designed to create favourable conditions for artistic research?
