Promotion lecture – Karin Karlfeldt Fedje

Can metals in contaminated materials contribute to a sustainable future?

Welcome to attend the promotion lecture of Karin Karlfeldt Fedje for Adjunct Professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Division of Water Environemnt Technology.

Abstract
The amounts of metal-contaminated materials are large in our society. Some examples of such materials are ashes from waste incineration, polluted soils and sediments. Today, most of these materials are landfilled, on- or offshore, while at the same time the demand for metals in society is increasing. This is of course not sustainable in the longer perspective. My research is focused on the recovery of these valuable resources in sustainable ways. In this presentation, some examples from my research within metal recovery from contaminated material will be presented and discussed. In addition, a short reflection from my perspective on the future of this area is given.
