Docent lecture, Meta Berghauser Pont

Measuring Cities – The Qualities of Quantity. In this lecture Meta Berghauser Pont will demonstrate that without adequate measures we cannot guide our cities into more sustainable trajectories.
Meta Berghauser Pont will draw from previous research on urban density and link this to the understanding of cities as complex networks, showcasing the work done by the research group SMoG. Both network and density measures condition and create potential for urban life taking place in streets and neighbourhoods, a potential that can be influenced through urban design.

Further, she will present future research fields where green spaces and green networks will come to play a central role. Last, but not least, she will discuss the need to translate cutting-edge spatial analysis methods into practical tools that need to become available to students and professional working with the transformation of cities.
