What is CVA?

The Center for Healthcare Architecture (CVA) is a national arena for the creation, translation, exchange and dissemination of knowledge about healthcare architecture. As an academic center, CVA conducts research, research training and contributes with basic and further training in the field. The research focus for CVA is buildings and physical environments as a support and a part of the interaction between healthcare, patients and architecture.
CVA works with national and international research groups. In its outreach role CVA initiates and implements development projects together with the Swedish County Councils. CVA has also established itself as a national venue for the sharing of knowledge by regularly organizing seminars, theme days and workshops.
Why does CVA exist?
Healthcare architecture is an important part of healthcare sustainability - socially, economically and environmentally. Properly designed healthcare architecture can support the performance, health outcomes, and patient experience of care qualities. Healthcare buildings are important and long-term social investments and therefore should rest on a solid foundation of knowledge. Healthcare is research-intensive shall be founded on evidence and proven experience. Its representatives therefore requests research-based knowledge also in the design of their buildings and environments. The potential to support healthcare through a properly designed physical care environment can be better utilized. There is a great need for knowledge.
The Center for Healthcare Architecture enables, coordinates and develops research and knowledge building in healthcare architecture on a national level. The Center is also linked to the international healthcare architectural research that ensures that new research is continuously made available in Sweden.
