This test cell houses a full-sized D13 HD Diesel engine. It is currently being fitted with equipment for tests, using a motor that was recently donated by Volvo GTT. This cell will be used for two main purposes. CERC collaborates with the Chalmers Competence Center for Catalysis in the area of exhaust gas treatment. Projects associated with cleanup of Diesel engine exhaust (catalytic particulate traps and selective catalytic reduction of NOx) will use this engine, which will deliver realistic exhaust flows for flow-reactor type tests. Next, CERC is heavily involved on research related to waste heat recovery and this engine will be fitted with various recovery technologies, with an emphasis on Rankine style systems.
