17.30-17.45 Opening of the programme
17.45-18.45 Popular lecture by the programme's GoCAS chair Anders Sandberg from University of Oxford: Existential risk: how threatened is humanity?
Humanity has historically been victim to both natural and anthropogenic disasters: all of them have been survivable. But it is not obvious that this will always have to be true. This lecture will explore the topic of existential risks, threats to the future survival and flourishing of humanity. I will examine current and emerging existential risks, and how it is possible to analyse and mitigate low probability, high impact risks.
