Sports and Technology - for the love of sports

Sports and Technology at Chalmers is where athletes, coaches, enterprise and governing bodies meet researchers, engineers and students to undertake advanced sports related research.
Established in 2012, Sports and Technology at Chalmers is a multidisciplinary initiative, hosted by the Materials Science Area of Advance. Sports related research leads not only to better performance for the athlete – whether amateur or professional – but most importantly also to increased safety.

Injuries and safety are two of the most important aspects of performing sports at any level. An injured major muscle with insufficient recovery can result in substantial financial or personal loss for an amateur with limited funds for physiotherapy whereas an Olympic athlete, on the other hand, may have professional health staff at hand but the stakes are high if serious injury occurs.

At the same time, sports is a main driver for the evolution of new and improved materials, given the large number of athletes willing to try new solutions in their aim for improved results and the significant commercial potential of successful sports materials. Engineers work with equipment design, lab experiments and testing, computational modelling and field testing, together with governing bodies and athletes.
