One of Chalmers’ most important contributions towards climate adaptation work is the positive indirect impacts we have on climate through education. Our alumni contribute to an effective transition by constantly developing their knowledge, skills and ability to evaluate and make assessments based on a scientifically critical approach. Our courses are highly regarded when it comes to climate and sustainability issues, and Chalmers is and is seen to be a university with high standards of scientific integrity. We must practise what we preach.
Our courses will promote climate adaptation work
Chalmers’ courses will be highly regarded when it comes to climate and sustainability issues and provide a route to advanced knowledge and the ability to create solutions that make a difference in achieving climate adaptations on a local and global level. Our courses are run by lecturers and researchers with a high level of expertise in the climate adaptation issues, and in close contact with the wider community.
Examples from the action plan: Increased focus on the relevance of our courses for climate adaptations within student recruitment. Using students’ ability to develop skills for the transition as a criterion in developing general and specific programmes. Resources and opportunities for skills development for lecturers and Heads of Programmes so that they can develop relevant courses and programmes. Provision of courses for working professionals that can develop skills for climate adaptation work.
Students will be able to have impact
Chalmers will have active and clear collaboration between students, lecturers and researchers to propel the climate issue forward, and we will make good use of students’ initiatives and involvement in the climate issue.
Examples from the action plan: Clear collaboration with students in the context of the “Chalmers against global heating” initiative with the aim of developing the climate issue in our education and in the organisation’s activities. Establishing a role within Chalmers where students may receive remuneration for carrying out activities that benefit student collaboration in the climate area.
The education will be run on a climate-friendly basis
Everything from energy efficiency in teaching environments to the use of materials and travel as part of educational activities will be included in education run on climate-friendly principles.
Examples from the action plan: Carbon emission evaluation of a delimited educational area to be able to set clear targets for reducing climate impact from educational activities.
