Purpose and goals: We will develop a route planning system for shipping. E-NAV will receive real-time data from meteorological data sources, coastal surveillance systems, other vessels and Earth observation data (Copernicus). E-NAV will analyze, revise and transfer route plans and weather forecasts to navigators on board and the company's navigators ashore. E-hubs will contribute to reduced fuel consumption, reduced material fatigue, optimized sailing time, increased safety and reduced carbon dioxide emissions. Expected effects and results: E-Nav will reduce the total energy consumption for transport by sea, by avoiding storms and using advantageous conditions such as electricity. E-Nav will also increase shipping companies' ability to plan the right transport at the right time. Layout and implementation: Analysis companies in Sweden and in Cyprus as well as two departments at Chalmers University of Technology collaborate with a Norwegian and a Swedish shipping company with access to several different vessels. The analysis companies develop the product and service solution. The University contributes with the latest research findings on ship technical models, weather models and models for using remote sensing to improve the weather models.
