Implementing CDIO in Raw Materials Sector (CDIO2)
The project objective is to continue implementation of CDIO (Conceive Design Implement Operate) in the typical technical MSc programmes related to Raw Materials (RM). Implementing CDIO results in more T‐shaped students at existing running MSc programmes and a “technical faculty” with increased pedagogic, entrepreneurial and teaching engineering skills. The involved partners will increase their knowledge in exploration, mining, metallurgy, mineral processing, product and structure materialization, etc. by involving innovation, business and entrepreneurial aspects to it. This mix of practical and technical content with entrepreneurial and business aspects is a unique possibility that will bring experiences for sustainable future within the RM Academy.
The implementation of CDIO will be based on a continuous industry and research involvement with academia through various activities included in the project. The project constitutes of four different target areas which are divided in four work packages, can be summarized here. The first focus is to continue the faculty development courses to inspire, teach and involve faculty member within Raw Materials (RM) and further build-up course from the experience gained from current CDIO project (2016-2017). This will consecutively create improvements in courses and programmes offered by the participating universities within RM for higher education. The second focus is the innovative conceived laboratory development which will enable modernization in teaching and support the students with innovative environment to learn about key areas in RM. The third focus is the project course development by collaboration between universities and companies using CDIO principles. This will enable creation of sustainable and innovative methods for solving RM industrial projects. Students in their higher education (typically at MSc level) will develop necessary skills of communication, business, entrepreneurship, and critical thinking (design thinking) apart from technical skills toward RM related projects.
