Lunch Bunch: "Wheel-rail interaction; a challenge for more reliable railway operations"
Welcome to Lunch Bunch by Anders Ekberg, Department of Applied Mechanics, Division of Dynamics
The wheel/rail interface can roughly be described as 20 cars piled on top of two small coins; with the contact interface heated up to some hundred degrees and accelerated to some hundred kilometers per hour. Such an environment poses some challenges in terms of operational management, but also for numerical and experimental investigations. The talk will give an overview of occurring phenomena, methods of analysis and some of the current research challenges.
